There are two numbers on every senator. The editor's call is the editorial judgment for this board — locked, and only editable by whoever holds the admin link. Readers is the median of every read submitted by everyone who has visited this page. Both are shown side by side, and where they disagree, that gap is the interesting part.
Your slider sets your own read. Move whatever you like — nothing is saved while you do it. Your changes are a draft that lives on your screen and nowhere else, until you press Review & submit in the bar that appears along the bottom the moment you move something. Drag things around, change your mind, throw the whole thing out — no one sees a keystroke of it.
When you do submit, you get a plain-text list of every read you are filing, and we ask you to confirm it twice. Nothing touches the database until you have cleared both.
The part that matters: you are not overwriting anyone, but you are moving the number everyone reads. Your submission joins the record permanently and shifts the readers' median for every person who opens this link afterwards. If you are the only submission on a senator, the readers' number is your number.
And everyone will know exactly what you picked. The board updates live for every reader, so when the readers' number on Susan Collins jumps four points on a Tuesday afternoon, that was somebody. Be sure.
Scale: 1 = hard no · 6 = true tossup · 11 = hard yes. Where nobody has submitted a read yet, the readers' total falls back to the editor's call so the cloture maths still covers all 100 seats.
Roster: all 100 current senators (53 R · 45 D · 2 I). Photos are public-domain congressional headshots. Anyone with the link can submit a read; the readers' number is the median of those reads, and resubmitting replaces your own earlier one. The editor's call is editable only with the admin link.
